This reference book of the esoteric philosophy, The Secret Doctrine originally published in two volumes that are Cosmogenesis and Anthropogenesis. After the publication of the 2 volumes, Blavatsky also intended to publish the 3rd and the 4th volume. However, after her death, Annie Besant published its 3rd volume that became controversial.

In the first volume the author describes the origin and progress of the universe. She explains this, through the ideas of cyclical development in Hinduism. Everything in this world is said to substitute between the periods of activity and passivity. In the second volume we read about the sources of the mankind using an account of “Root Races” that is millions of years old.

According to Blavatsky, the contents of this work were revealed to her by ‘mahatmas‘. At first she tried to keep those adepts secret, but later two names revealed that are Koot Hoomi and Morya.

Many readers believe that this book has formed the basis of the modern occultism. However, several scholars criticized on Blavatsky for plagiarizing. They blamed that she used occult and eastern works to write The Secret Doctrine book.
